External Display

<Only when connected to Cradle>
You can switch the output destination to an external display. Before switching the computer on, connect the external display to the external display port (A) and the AC adaptor to the DC-IN jack (B) on the Cradle.

Switching the display mode

Using «A4» button

  1. Press «A4» button*1.
  2. Click the display mode.
  3. Each time you press the button: Computer only/Disconnect Projector → Duplicate → Projector only
    You cannot use Extend mode using this procedure. If you use Extend mode, execute the following procedure.
*1 : Depending on the model, application button may not differ. You can change the setting of application buttons.(refer toApplication Button Setting)

Using [Graphic Properties]

If you cannot select the display with the «A4» button, follow the procedures below.
  1. Right-click the desktop, and then click [Graphic Properties].
  2. Select one of the application modes and click [OK].
  3. Click [Multiple Displays].
  4. Select the display in [Operating Mode].
  5. Click [Apply].
  6. Click [OK].
  7. If necessary, click [General Settings], set the color depth, resolution, etc., and click [OK].
NOTE
- After resuming from sleep and hibernation, or restarting the computer, the output destination may not be the same as selected in the previous status.
- When you change the display after Windows starts up, do not press any button until switching is complete.
- You cannot use the Duplicate until Windows starts up.
- Do not connect or remove the external display during sleep and hibernation.
- It may take some time to switch between displays depending on the displays used.
- When you use the Projector only, set the suitable number of colors, resolution, or refresh rate separately from when you use the Disconnect Projector or when you use the simultaneous display.
When you switch the display from the Disconnect Projector to the Projector only, the resolution of the external display become same as that of the internal LCD. Set the resolution again.
Depending on the settings, some external displays may be distorted or may not display the mouse cursor correctly. In this case, set the settings to lower value.
- When you use the Duplicate, DVD-Video, MPEG files and other motion image files may not be played back smoothly.
- Carefully read the instruction manual of the external display.
- When connecting an external display that does not conform to the Plug & Play standards, select the display driver accordingly in the following menu, or use the driver disc supplied with the monitor.
  1. Click (Start) - [Control Panel] - [Adjust screen resolution] - [Advanced Settings] - [Monitor] - [Properties].
    • A standard user needs to enter an administrator password.
  2. Click [Driver] - [Update Driver].
- Until Windows startup is completed (during Setup Utility, etc.), the switching function between the internal LCD and the external display cannot be used.
- When you use high resolution displays, the display color, resolution or refresh rate may be changed, switching to [Built-in Display] in [Intel® Graphics and Media Control Panel].
We recommend you to switch the output destination by pressing «A4».
CAUTION
- Before disconnecting the external display, switch to the Disconnect Projector. Otherwise the displayed image quality may become different after disconnection (e.g., wrong resolution).
- The screen may become distorted due to the following operations. In this case, restart the computer.
  • Disconnecting an external display for which you have set high resolution or high refresh rate.
  • Connecting/disconnecting an external display during computer operations.
NOTE
Notes on the Extend mode
- It may not be possible to use the Extend mode with some software applications.
- When you click the maximize button, the window is displayed on one of the displays. You cannot move the maximized window to the other display.
- Do not use the display rotation in the Extend mode.
- You cannot switch the Extend mode by pressing «A4» button.
- When the application running is not shown on the display:
When the application is in the external display or after the application is closed in the external display, there are times the application will not be shown in the display when executed the next time if the position of the Extend mode is changed or the Extend mode is closed.
- When there is no display after the position of the Extend mode is changed:
The application running is displayed at the position of the Extend mode before the change. Return the position of the Extend mode to the condition before the change. Move the application to the internal LCD, and then correct the position of the Extend mode.
- When there is no display when the Extend mode is disabled:
The application running is being displayed in the external display. Set the Extend mode again, move the application from the external display to the internal LCD and then disable the Extend mode.
  • When the display domain for the Extend mode is changed, the wallpaper and icons may become displaced.
- When an animated pointer is used for the mouse pointer:
An error may occur when resuming from the sleep and hibernation. In such cases, change the mouse pointer to the standard pointer with the following procedure:
  1. Click Start (Start) - [Control Panel] - [Hardware and Sound] - [Mouse].
  2. Click [Pointers].
  3. Click [(None)] in [Scheme], then click [OK].
